Artist Statement

My senior exhibition is a start of a comic/web series that I am working on and hope to continue after this exhibition. This comic is inspired by a story that a friend of mine and I have been working on for a 2 years now. It is a story about a dystopian world in which those with super human abilities rule with two conflicting sides.

I worked on this comic on my Ipad using Procreate. Each page took me roughly 2 to 3 hours each. I first sketched out the layout of the panels then I went back through and did a more refined sketch. After that I lined and colored the pages before shading and adding highlights. Lastly I added the text which is from a script that I wrote prior to drawing the comic. This project means a lot to me and I believe that it is a good reflection of myself as an artist and of my work.

I am heavily inspired by comic book artists and other graphic novels. I have grown up reading super hero comics and other illustrative books that have always been the inspiration for me creating art. The oldest piece of art I still have is a small comic strip I drew on an extra piece of paper in class when I was 8 years old. Having grown up collecting comic strips and graphic novels it is easy to say that I have always been drawn to this form of art.
